Paint system equipment
Six equipment families make up the paint system around a robot: applicators (air guns, air-assisted guns, electrostatic rotary bells), colour change and fluid handling, metering and 2K mixing, paint supply and circulation, booth-side and cell equipment, and cleaning and waste. We quote them item by item with the robot, or on their own for robots you already have.
On a complete line the robots are a minority of the money — on one quoted bus-body line the value sat in the booths and the ovens, not in the arms. The equipment on this page is where a paint shop is actually won or lost.

Applicators — guns and rotary bells
The applicator sets transfer efficiency, film build per pass and fan width, so it decides cycle time and paint cost more than the robot does.
| Item | What we supply | Where it is the right choice |
|---|---|---|
| Automatic air spray gun | DeVilbiss AGMD Pro class, 1.2 and 1.4 mm nozzles as used on delivered lines | General industrial finishing, wide colour range, easy colour change |
| Air-assisted airless (AirMix type) | Fluid pressure atomizes, shaping air refines the pattern; 120–160 bar on a quoted bus line | Primers and fillers, higher film build per pass, large surfaces |
| Electrostatic rotary bell | 55 or 65 mm cup, dual shaping air, 0–100 kV control; used on a delivered 23 JPH car-body line | High-volume lines where transfer efficiency and finish justify the cost |
| Automatic electrostatic gun | Cable-fed or turbine-generator types | Conductive parts at medium volume, where a bell is not justified |
| Waterborne isolation package | Isolated fluid path for electrostatic application of waterborne material | Waterborne lines with electrostatics — an equipment decision, not a setting |
Colour change and fluid handling
A colour-change stack is priced per circuit and paid for again at every change in flush solvent and lost time, so it is sized against the change frequency rather than the colour count.
| Item | What we supply | Where it is the right choice |
|---|---|---|
| CV3000 high-pressure colour-change valve | Manifold with one circuit per colour plus solvent and air | High-pressure circuits, airless and air-assisted lines |
| CV300 low-pressure colour-change valve | The same principle at low pressure | Air-spray lines |
| Multi-colour valve stacks | 2-colour 6-way, 3-colour plus solvent, up to 12-colour 15-way as quoted on a plastic-parts line | Lines running several colours in batches or in sequence |
| Hold-pressure and back-pressure valves | Keeps the line charged between parts | Any circulating supply — the item that most often becomes a change order |
| Gun washer | Automatic cleaning station, JH-207 class | Colour change and end-of-shift cleaning |
Metering and 2K mixing
Ratio deviation shows up days later as soft film or gloss loss, so the metering principle and its acceptance test are specified before the order rather than during commissioning.
| Item | What we supply | Where it is the right choice |
|---|---|---|
| AccuFlo 2KP Pro dosing and mixing unit | Two-component dosing with a stated ratio range | 2K primers, fillers, topcoats and clear coats |
| AccuFlo 1KP flow meter | Flow measurement for single-component lines | 1K lines where delivery must be repeatable |
| Servo gear-pump metering | 4.5 cc and 6 cc pumps on delivered and quoted lines; on an adhesive cell, 0–2,500 cc/min at ±0.3 % | Where delivered volume must be demonstrable at acceptance |
| In-arm mixer | Mixer carried on the robot arm | Short mixed-material path, fast material change, low flush waste — at the cost of wrist payload |
| External mix at the applicator | Components meet at the nozzle | Minimum mixed material; needs nozzle design and cleaning discipline |
Paint supply and circulation
The paint kitchen is where the finish is actually decided — viscosity, temperature, filtration and circulation — and it is the scope most often missing from a competing offer.
| Item | What we supply | Where it is the right choice |
|---|---|---|
| Pneumatic paint pumps | Diaphragm and piston pumps; BINKS Maple-15 class with a 200 L base module on a delivered wheel line | Single-colour and circulating supply |
| Circulation system | Ring main from the paint-mix room to the booth, with return | Multi-station lines and materials that must not settle |
| Day tanks with level control | 80 L float-level tanks on a delivered hanging line | Per-station supply |
| Filtration, regulators and agitation | Pressure regulators, filters, pneumatic agitators, remote proportional regulators | Every line — the items that decide viscosity stability |
| Heated supply for adhesive and high-viscosity material | Twin-pump 60:1 systems at 360 bar with 10-zone temperature control, as delivered on a glass bonding cell | Polyurethane adhesive, sealant and high-viscosity coatings |
Booth-side and cell equipment
Robot, booth and conveyor are one system: booth conditions that were marginal for a sprayer become a consistent, measurable defect once a robot repeats the same path every time.
| Item | What we supply | Where it is the right choice |
|---|---|---|
| Spray booths | Dry-filter and water-curtain booths; 19,000 × 6,800 × 5,300 mm dry booths quoted on a bus line | The dominant cost item on a complete line |
| Supply-air conditioning and extraction | Air handling sized with the booth | Waterborne and controlled-condition finishing |
| Ovens and flash-off zones | 160–180 °C six-zone ovens on a delivered e-coat line | Curing systems |
| Seventh-axis tracks and positioners | Ex motors and Ex cable carriers where the track sits inside a classified booth | Long parts and multi-station cells |
| Cell control and safety | Safety PLC, light curtains, Ex door switches, muting, operator stations | Every cell we integrate |
Cleaning, flushing and waste
Flush volume and frequency follow directly from the mixer position and the colour-change stack, so they are calculated at design stage and priced, not discovered in operation.
| Item | What we supply | Where it is the right choice |
|---|---|---|
| Solvent supply and flush blocks | Cleaning block and return-purge block on the arm | Colour and material change |
| Cleaning tanks and purge cups | Purge cup at the station, cleaning tanks in the kitchen | Between-cycle purging and gun cleaning |
| Waste solvent collection | Collection and handling of flush solvent and purged material | A named line item on any 2K or multi-colour line |
| Air treatment | Dryers, filters and regulators to the quality the applicator and the purge system require | Purge air for a pressurised robot must meet the certificate conditions |
How we quote it
- Every item named in your technical specification appears as a priced line, including 2K units, in-arm mixers, flushing systems and waste collection. An item not listed is an item supplied free later.
- Nozzle, cup and pump sizes are frozen against the cycle time and the material data sheet before the offer goes out — a 55 mm bell cup replaced by a 65 mm cup on site costs commissioning days.
- Interface conditions are written as a customer-interface list: conveyor encoder type, supply back-pressure, compressed-air pressure and dew point, power and water.
- Model numbers in the offer are checked against the attached datasheet before it is sent.

Frequently asked questions
Do you sell this equipment separately from the robot?
Yes. Paint system equipment is quoted item by item, and we supply it on its own where you already have robots. The configuration still starts from the same three inputs — parts, paint specification and cycle time.
Which brands do you supply?
We source from named Chinese and international suppliers and put the brand and model in the offer. Where you specify a brand, it goes into the contract verbatim. We publish product names and selection logic rather than redistributing manufacturers' brochures we have no written permission to republish.
What is usually missing from a competitor's offer?
Hold-pressure valves, cleaning tanks, air treatment, waste solvent collection, and the paint supply from the kitchen to the booth. On one delivered project those items all became change orders and the quotation was revised three times. We list them.
Can you retrofit equipment to an existing robot?
Often yes — applicator, colour change and metering can be changed on an installed robot, subject to wrist payload and media routing. The fluid path through a hollow wrist is the usual constraint.
