Pretreatment and cathodic e-coat for automotive components

Suspension and similar components are pretreated and e-coated on a programmed-hoist dipping line: spray and dip degrease, rinses, zinc phosphating at 46–54 °C for 180 s, cathodic e-coat at 30–34 °C for 180 s with 44 tubular anodes, ultrafiltration, then a six-zone oven at 160–180 °C. Line cycle 6 minutes with 3 minutes under current, at 500 kg and up to 38 m² of surface per load.

Figures come from the project records behind the linked projects below, not from a brochure. Your line will differ — these are what we actually built or engineered.

What we supply

  • Process sequence and tank sizing from the part mix and the takt
  • Rectifier, conductivity control and DI water make-up
  • Ultrafiltration and rinse cascade
  • Oven, forced cooling and the utilities that go with them
  • A single fixed technical annex in one language version as the contract reference

What this application taught us

Quotations for an e-coat line differed by a factor of about 2.3 between suppliers because the process boundary was not the same. The boundary — oven, forced cooling, RO water, installation, in or out — is fixed before any price comparison.

What we need from you

  • Part drawings or dimensioned photographs, including the deepest recess to be coated or the full weld list.
  • The paint or process specification: 1K or 2K, solvent or waterborne, powder, adhesive or wire, with the required film build or weld size.
  • The required output — parts or jobs per hour — and the shift pattern.
  • Booth or cell dimensions, the conveyor or hanger arrangement, and the hazardous-area classification your safety engineer has assigned.
