Robot painting for truck wheels

Steel truck wheels are painted by two GR680-2700 robots in mirrored water-curtain booths, each covering one face of the wheel as it passes on a continuous overhead conveyor at 1,200 mm pitch and 1.4–1.8 m/min, tracked by a 2,000 pulse-per-revolution encoder. Waterborne 1K silver over e-coat at 32–34 s application viscosity.

Figures come from the project records behind the linked projects below, not from a brochure. Your line will differ — these are what we actually built or engineered.

What we supply

  • Two mirrored booths with the robots facing each other across the line
  • Encoder tracking and hanger-position handling
  • Waterborne-capable pump, colour change and gun package
  • Safety PLC cell control with light curtains and Ex door switches
  • Assist manipulators for loading and unloading, where the part weight justifies them

What this application taught us

Hanger type and parts per hanger are frozen before simulation. Changing from one wheel per hanger to two changed the robot selection three times on a delivered project.

What we need from you

  • Part drawings or dimensioned photographs, including the deepest recess to be coated or the full weld list.
  • The paint or process specification: 1K or 2K, solvent or waterborne, powder, adhesive or wire, with the required film build or weld size.
  • The required output — parts or jobs per hour — and the shift pattern.
  • Booth or cell dimensions, the conveyor or hanger arrangement, and the hazardous-area classification your safety engineer has assigned.
