CMA GR or SR series — fixed installation or a portable robot

The two families on this site are not competitors for the same job. The GR series is installed and stays installed; the SR series is wheeled between booths. The certificates differ too, and in some markets that decides the question before economics does.

What decides it

  • Market and certification: an EU-directive project needs ATEX, which rules the SR series out. A Russian, Middle Eastern or Asian project may accept a GB/T 3836 certificate — confirm with the authority before ordering, not after.
  • Utilisation: a robot that paints two hours a day does not justify a fixed installation. A robot that paints two shifts does not justify being wheeled around.
  • Cycle time: moving and re-referencing a portable robot between booths is time that a fixed installation does not spend.
  • Programme count: many small programmes favour the portable robot; a few high-volume programmes favour the fixed one.

The certificate difference in one paragraph

The SR series holds Chinese explosion-proof certificate GYB23.3310X, marked Ex eb ib mb pxb IIC T4 Gb for gas and Ex tb ib mb pxb IIIC T135 °C Db for dust, valid to 17 December 2028, covering 5/8/10/12 kg models from 1,600 to 3,800 mm. It is a real certificate from an accredited body — and it is not ATEX, has no notified body number, and does not satisfy Directive 2014/34/EU.

Frequently asked questions

Can a portable robot be used in a certified booth?

Only if the booth's hazardous-area classification is covered by the robot's marking and the installation provides the protective gas supply, purge and interlocks the certificate requires. Confirm that before assuming the robot may be wheeled in.

Is the SR series a cheaper GR series?

No — it is a different machine for a different pattern of work. Comparing them on unit price alone leads to buying a portable robot for a line that needs a fixed one.

Do you supply both?

Yes. We supply both: the GR series from CMA and the SR series from Zhihui, and every page names the manufacturer and the certificate holder.
