ECR5 collaborative robot

The EFORT ECR5 is a six-axis collaborative robot with 5 kg payload at 928 mm reach and ±0.03 mm repeatability. The arm weighs 20.5 kg, so one person can move and remount it; the body is IP54 and the cabinet IP40. It mounts on the floor or inverted and is taught by hand guiding or from the pendant.

What we have run on it

Gluing and dispensing tests, small assembly and machine tending. A collaborative arm is a good fit where the cell has to live inside an existing manual line and the changeover is frequent; it is the wrong tool for a fixed high-volume cycle, where a standard arm behind a fence is faster and cheaper.

Frequently asked questions

Does a collaborative robot need a fence?

It depends on the application, not on the robot. A collaborative arm allows a risk assessment to conclude that no fence is needed; it does not decide that by itself. A sharp tool, a heavy part or a high speed can put a fence back in the scope. The assessment is done for the cell, and we quote the safety scope after it.

What can a 5 kg arm actually carry?

Five kilograms at the wrist including the gripper. A 1.5 kg vacuum gripper leaves 3.5 kg of part. This is the number most often got wrong at the quotation stage.

Is hand-guided teaching really faster?

For short programs with few points, yes — you move the arm to the position and record it. For a path with fifty points and process parameters at each one, a pendant or offline programming is faster and more repeatable. We use hand guiding where it earns its keep.

Where does a cobot beat a standard arm?

Low volume, frequent changeover, and a cell that has to sit inside an existing manual line without rebuilding the floor. Where the cycle is fixed and high volume, a standard arm behind a fence is faster and costs less.
