SCARA robots — the EFORT ESR series

Ten EFORT ESR series SCARA robots from 3 kg at 400 mm to 20 kg at 1,000 mm, with 150 to 300 mm of vertical stroke, repeatability from ±0.01 mm on the horizontal axes and standard cycle times from 0.387 seconds. SCARA = Selective Compliance Assembly Robot Arm 平面关节型机器人 — four axes, built for fast work on a flat plane.

Frequently asked questions

What does SCARA stand for?

SCARA = Selective Compliance Assembly Robot Arm 平面关节型机器人. The arm is rigid vertically and compliant horizontally, which is what an insertion or a screwdriving operation wants: the tool goes straight down, and small lateral errors are absorbed rather than fought.

SCARA or six-axis?

If every pick and every place happens on a horizontal plane with the tool pointing down, a SCARA is faster, cheaper and takes less floor area. The moment the part has to be tilted or approached at an angle, you need the six-axis arm.

What is the Z number in the model name?

The vertical stroke in millimetres. ESR10-800Z20 is a 10 kg arm, 800 mm arm length, 200 mm of Z travel. If your part has to be lifted clear of a fixture 250 mm tall, the Z20 will not do it.

What does the standard cycle time mean?

The manufacturer cycle: 25 mm up, 300 mm across, 25 mm down and back, at rated load. It is a comparison figure between models, not a promise for your part — your gripper, your acceleration limits and your part weight all move it.
